How Junk Foods Affect Your Oral Health
February 15, 2016
Many people in the Beachwood, OH area do not realize that there are many connections between the health of your mouth and your overall health. Dr. Faist and his team are determined to help our patients live the healthiest lives possible.
If you can control your intake of junk food they will generate little to no harm on your dental and overall health. However, consuming large amounts of food can lead to many health issues like cavities and an increase risk of gum disease. Gum disease weakens your bone structure, leads to tooth loss, and can lead to an increase of heart disease and other inflammatory conditions.
Soda pop and sweets like doughnuts, cupcakes, and cookies are full of sugar. This means that they are high in calories but offer little to no nutritional value. Additionally, beverages like energy drinks, sports drinks, flavored waters, and more are filled with fructose corn syrup which is just sugar in disguise. Even your diet sodas have a high level of acid content and can cause the enamel of your teeth to be worn away. This means that your teeth will become discolored and more sensitive.
