Oral Health | Strategies To Prevent Tooth Decay
October 9, 2017
Are cavities and tooth decay something that scares you? No one wants to hear they have cavities, but some people want to do more than just the normal dental hygiene routine of brushing, flossing, and seeing the dentist.
To help keep your teeth as healthy as possible, Dr. Faist has made some suggestions about the kinds of foods you should eat and some you should avoid.
1. Eat more dairy products
Casein, which is a protein found in dairy products, has a lot of benefits to your oral health. Casein is found in products such as cheese, yogurt, and more!
2. Eat your fruits and vegetables
Not only are fruits and vegetables good for your overall health, certain fruits and vegetables can also be good for your oral health. Specifically, pineapples, celery, and pears are good fruits and vegetables for your oral health.
3. Stick to sugar-free snacks
For sugary foods, look to see if it contains xylitol. Xylitol is a sugar alternative which helps minimize the risk of cavities.
4. Drink wine and eat raisins
Studies have shown that a chemical component in raisins and wine can help fight cavity-causing bacteria.
5. Chew sugar-free chewing gum
Just like sugar-free candy, when you are looking for gum be sure it includes xylitol.
Besides your dental hygiene at home and your diet, regular trips to the dentist are important to keep your mouth healthy.
