What Are Dental Bridges?
February 12, 2018
If you’re missing a tooth or have a tooth that is decayed, a dental bridge may be able to help restore your smile.
Dental bridges are used to fill in a missing space where a tooth once was. Generally, dental bridges are made of a pontic, which is the false tooth, and two crowns.
Many people confuse dental implants and dental bridges. A dental implant is placed into your gum, which allows the bone to grow around the implants and hold it in place. On the other hand, dental bridges are made up of two crowns that hold a false tooth in place. Each crown is placed on the teeth on either side of where the false tooth will be placed.
Why would I need a dental bridge?
A dentist may recommend a dental bridge in order to:
Restore your smile
Redistribute the force of your bite
Restore the ability to speak and chew properly
Keep the surrounding teeth from shifting out of place
Dental bridges are a great option to treat a number dental health issues. It is important to remember that nothing is better than your permanent teeth. Practicing good dental hygiene habits at home is one of the best ways to keep your mouth healthy.
