Gum Disease | Are Your Gums Embarrassing You?
September 25, 2017
Your oral hygiene and health go hand in hand with being an overall healthy person. Unfortunately, what most people fail to realize is that oral hygiene is much more than just keeping your teeth clean. While brushing your teeth is important, it is also important to floss and brush your gums and tongue. If you are not doing all of the aforementioned, you are giving germs and bacteria an opportunity to wreak havoc in your mouth.
Why is flossing and taking care of your gums so critical? For starters, if you do not take care of your gums, you will develop gum disease. Gum disease is linked to the following health conditions:
- Bad breath
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Cancer
- Loss of tooth and jawbone
- Hypertension
In addition to the above, gum disease has been linked to many other, less serious, diseases.
Keeping gum disease and these other health problems at the top of your mind, is it critical to care for your entire mouth, not just your teeth. If you are just doing your teeth, you are cheating your oral health.
If you haven’t been showing your gums love, now is a good time to start. However, you may require a deep cleaning to get your gums back on track. If you think you need to receive a deep cleaning, feel free to contact Dr. Faist today at his office in Beachwood.
