What Does Soda Do to Our Dental Health?
May 8, 2018
By now, most of us know that soda is not good for us. Besides our overall health, soda can harm our dental health as well.
Heavy consumption of soda can not only increase your chances of obesity and diabetes, but soda is also one of the main causes of tooth decay.
There are a couple of reasons as to why drinking soda is so bad for our dental health. The first is the amount of sugar these drinks contain. Sugar mixes with bacteria in our saliva creating acid that harms our teeth. Even if you drink sugar-free soda, it still contains acid that can damage your tooth enamel.
Children and teens are most at risk of developing cavities because their tooth enamel is not fully formed yet, but adults can still suffer the negative effects of soda consumption as well. One of the best ways to stay hydrated and also keep your mouth healthy is by drinking water. If you do have a soda occasionally, be sure to drink water as well so that it helps neutralize the acid.
